- Greetings and Salutations,
-
- I need some basic information about voice modems. I desparately want to
- get one, but have been unable to gather any basic information about how
- they operate. Any information would be graatly appreciated:
-
- 1) Does the computer have to be turned on to receive voice mail?
-
- 2) Are the outgoing/incoming messages recorded on the hard drive or on a
- chip on the modem?
-
- 3) Are there any modems which come with decent answering machine/voice
- mail software? Any good software available at the retail level, as
- shareware, as freeware, etc.
-
- 4) Why can't I use my high-tech, non-voice 28.8 modem as an answering
- machine with the proper software?
-
- 5) Does the answering machine software use the PC speaker, modem speaker,
- or can I use my sound card and speakers to listen to incoming/opiutgoing
- messages?
-
- 6) Many thanks to all replys. E-mail replys (in addition to newsgroup
- posts) to msummers@CCLINK.aus.etn.com, UTLonghorn@aol.com, or
- marksummers@msn.com.
